Because the output is viewable, the pieces produced by Avisplit can be used for a variety of purposes. The way an ordinary file-splitter cuts a movie is like disassembling a bicycle. It makes it easier to carry, but you have to put it together again before you can use it. Avisplit cuts a movie into mini-movies that can be viewed, sent and shown in their own right.

Avisplit can produce a playable, viewable result even when some of the pieces are missing. With ordinary file-splitters, it is very likely that an attempt to rejoin and play an incomplete series of files will fail. This means that contamination or loss of just one piece can destroy a whole film.
